Kite Surfing Finse

Finse must be one of the most perfect places to go Kite Surfing! You take the train from Oslo S and little over 4 hours later you walk of the station at Finse. You simply walk 10 meters and you are inside the finse 1222 hotel.

The Hotel is a bit pricy so try to go off season if you do not want to spend a lot of cash.

The wind and weather can be shifting and we went from no wind to 12 ms in the same day.

There is also not unlimited room here, so on a good day it might get crowded.

If you do not have a kite, thats okay. Just rent one here.

After you are done kiting, enjoy reading about the Star Wars filming here back in the 80s. They have Luke Skywalker’s hat on display.

Looking for a place to discover kitesurfing in peace and safety! I can highly reccomed this “secret” spot on the island of Rossö right utside of Strømstad in Sweden. Directions: Facebook site

Why Rossö, well it has three important things:

  1. Wind:
The wind Direction is very predictable and blows toward land, the wind is so constant toward land so that all the trees are bendt inland in the same direction.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Observe the tilted trees and the beer.

2. Shallow bay
For starters there is a shallow bay (to the left in the picture) that when high tide you can walk around an its perfect for learning. My friends and I have removed most of the loose rocks here.

3. Advanced area:
If the wind is strong, which it usually is any experienced kite surfer can surf up and down the shore with the wind constantly pushing you inland. Its safe and fun

WP_20130622_007
Pro kiting up and down the shore.

It is very easy to enter and exit the water.

There is also a campground and plenty of space for tents and kiter’s. PS: don’t drive as far up as we did. It destroys the beach area. There is a nice parking spot with a short walk close by.

We  were a mix of beginners and pro’s so its room for both kind. Bring some beer and make a camp fire. It can be hard to find firewood so think about bringing some wood.

vinjeronden tur

Ruten deles opp i 3 etapper.

Punkt 1:

Rondeholet

Her er løpya vår :

turkart

Punkt 1:

Her er 360 grader oversikt over toppen:

Punkt 3:

Diving With Turtles

You want to dive with lots of turtles and observe these gigantic creatures as they go about their business?

Hawaii is the place for you! My dad and I went on a scuba dive in Hawaii with no big hopes of seeing anything. Wow what a suprise! We stayed at the Marriott at Ohana Ave. Inside there was a diveshop called Aqua Zone Scuba Diving

They picked us up from the hotel, but were 30 mins late, regardless it worked out. We just signed up for a Fun dive with full rental of gear.

They had a nice boat and took us out.

When we arrived and went down wreck we had some awsome time with these turtles. There were lots of them, I think we saw about 7 of them. We also got to see a fish cleaning station and watch the amazing symbiosis happening.

I highly recommend going for a dive trip if you are in Honolulu. Use Aqua Zone and make sure you tell them if you want to see turtles 🙂

Club Paradise – Coron Philippines

WP_20150817_14_14_35_Pro

Seriously, how often do you get to live on an island hotel!?

Club Paradise is a hotel located on an island separated from everything. They have internet, electricity, airconditioning and good food, so you will not have to give up on luxury.

We went there during the rain season, and got 50% discount on our stay. It was well worth it. Remember that you have to get there by a transport that they set up. The cost is additional. This is the best hotel i have ever stayed at.

The Weather
We went there during low season so it was very humid and warm. Too warm for just laying out in the sun, you have to be in the water or in the shade. It did not rain a single day. So I guess we were lucky. It is in the middle of the Ocean so weather can change fast, however it seems that clouds are gathering around the main island of Coron and just pass this small island as seen in this picture:

The Room
The bungalow on the beach is great. Its spaceous and the distance between the bungalow is so that you feel very private and alone. It comes with sunbeds and towels and all you need. If you want, just order food and drinks to your room. Enjoy yourself! The AC needs to be on all the time to combat the warm and humid weather. It is not very well insulated so you hear the waves and it gets warm fast if you turn the AC off. Shower is great. No issues here.

Our cabin

The Ocean
The water is pristine and warm. There are a school of fish just outside where barracudas hunt from time to time. It’s very cool as all of a sudden the large barracuda will swim around you and hunt smaller fish. Dont worry, it wont touch you.
There are also sea-turtles living close by which you can see. There are some reef sharks and plenty of Clown Fish. If you feel like diving, go look at the GIGANTIC clams. they are HUGE!
If you can handle the heat, they have sail-boats and glass bottom canoes as well as lifejackets and snorkeling gear. They have it all!

The location
It’s just as great for couples on romatic travel as backpackers, and families. They have all the amenities to cover you for a romantic trip up on top of the island or just to chill out by the pool side and sip drinks. Picture form behind the insect net inside the cabin looking out.

WP_20150818_11_06_53_Pro

Some warnings
They have a large fruit-bat colony that reside just by the restaurant and pool. They dont do anything but they make a LOT of noise. I have not heared this kind of noise since i visited a pig farm as a kid.

It is also very hot here for North-Europeans. For a lot of families and people it can get too hot. If you can not deal with hot humid weather ,this place is not for you.
Keep in mind that this place is expensive even compared to Norway. If you get a good deal you still have to pay for food and drinks. Dont go here to save money, go here to get a bit of Paradise and spoil yourself.

Tretopphytta (Tre top Hut)

WP_20151031_14_03_37_Pro

So you ever had the dream of building your own hut up in the trees? A place where you could spend the night and watch the stars or observe the wildlife in peace and tranquility?

Last Desember 23. Hanne gave me a birthday present which was one night in a Tre top hut up in Brummendal, link here: Furuhytta

They have several huts for rental and the Furuhytta is the most affordable and smallest one. Perfect for 2-4 persons. It has all the convenience of a normal cabin even though its elevated and you need to climb the stairs to get up.

Preparing to go there:
Don’t over-pack. There is not a lot of luggage room. And you do not need much. In the winter it is very warm inside so you dont have to bring a lot of warm stuff. Remember to pack the camera and flashlight. Of clothes, in the winter/fall time just bring some super-underwear for inside and then some normal light trekking gear. We went during fall.

Getting there:
The road direction is marked well until you get to a toll station. After that pay close attention to the directions. We had a hard time to find the right place to take off the main road. It was very hard to spot because it is no more than a open lot after about 15 minutes of driving into “nowhere”. Don’t hesitate to call the owners. They can guide you.

Staying there:
Your car parks very close. you do not need any trekking gear or special shoes to go there. During sommer you can use normal shoes. During winter there might be some snow on the path. No need to prepare yourself for a long trek. You can also bring suitcases or bags with you as the walk is short. Remember to bring a flash light especially for winter as it gets dark when all lights are off.

The cabin is insulated and warm, you do not need a lot of clothes. Remember that you have to do the dishwashing by hand so try to bring stuff that do not generate a lot of cleaning.

The birds are very tame and if you have food in your palm they might jump on your arm to eat the seeds. There are plenty of sees at the cabin. The squirrels that live there are audible as they run around and make scratching sounds. They won’t eat of your hand. There are some larger birds there as well. We saw also a woodpecker and some larger birds. They ate corn. However don’t put too much food that is not seeds, as you dont know if they will eat it.

There is full cellphone coverage so you can bring Spotify and such.
