Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Side Mirror not folding out

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the right side mirror. They did replace the mirror motor (or so they said) but the problem is still persistent. The service technician said he will try to fix it next time he comes.

The problem is tricky to prove since every other time I get into the car my right mirror does not fold out entirely, sometimes it looks folded out since I am reversing out but once I start driving I notice that the mirror is not folded out. I then have to pull over and open/close the mirrors manually since it is not possible to close the mirrors during drive.

It is really uncomfortable to not have the right mirror especially when I need to pull over as I can not see properly the cars on my right side. Se a video below the images.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Chrome details comes off

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the chrome decals on the rear trunk. This has happened twice now and the first time I had to come in to the service center, this time they are sending a mobile technician to my house. The reason this happens is because it is fastened only by a double sided adhesive tape. The tape is obviously of sub par quality.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Rear camera is broken

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the rear view camera that keeps breaking down. On a car this size it I really need it for parking. The only way to fix the camera was to reboot the car. I was hoping that this was a software issue but eventually I emailed tesla and requested a service appointment. They did replace the camera (or so they say). Works fine now.

Have you had a similar experience, let me know in the comment field below!

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Front Plastic decals not fitted

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the black plastic decals over the front left and right wheelbase. This is something I have seen on almost all other Tesla’s as well. The fitting is really poor. I have asked them twice to fix it but the for got it the first time. It is fixed now and tightly fitted.

Here you see the plastic decals not fitted

Of course I had to have the car in the service shop for 1 day. Hope it stays this way now.

What do you think, something you have seen on other Teslas? Comment below and let me know.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Screws are rusting

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the screw that holds the rear camera in place. It is full of rust. Tesla explains that the whole car is made of aluminium so it should not rust, but the screws are subject to corosion. They also claim that this is normal and not covered by warranty.

I find  that hard to believe, use proper screws. Seriously. And why is only on screw rusting? This would not happen on a BMW or am I wrong? Please comment below if you think so.

Tesla has not yet fixed this, it has been on their list to fix twice and they forget it each time. Now they promised to fix it when a service technician comes to my house.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Front window cable canal won’t clip on

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the cable canal that runs from the roof across my front windshield to the rear view mirror. The cable canal will not clip on. Looks flimsy. I had the service technician try to clip it back into place but he was unable.

Is this something you would just live with or should I complain and have it replaced? Comment below and let me know.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Rear Spoiler Corroding

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the rear spoiler. It is corroding! Tesla states that their car is made of aluminum so it does not rust. Great I though, but guess what. Aluminum corrodes for some reason beyond my understanding of physics.

Anyhow, Tesla promised to fix this so I have deliver the car to the service center once again. I think this is the 6th or 7th time I am there.

Really bad… What do you think? Comment below and let me know how aluminum can corrode or if you have the same problem.

  3. Re-insert the card into the camera

FIRMWARE Tesla Model X Topfit Dashcam

I have had some trouble with it and I think it works now.
Here is his reply in English unformatted. (I know it is a bit off):

Sorry for the late reply.

Its actual irritating to hear the voice “DVR recording” steadily. But dont worry. Ill always with you and solve this problem.

Firstly, please confirm with us about if the RORO CAM APP in your phone is the ZX06-170717V2.0 latest version.(Please see the 1st screenshot )

If the app is the latest version which marks  ZX06-170717V2.0,you just need press the shortcut button to close the camera sound. (Please see the 2nd screenshot )

But if  the RORO CAM APP in your phone is not the ZX06-170717V2.0 latest version, but is ZX06-170717V1.0 version. You need to upgrade the app to ZX06-170717V2.0 latest version first, and then continue with the following step.

The app update steps are as follows:

1. Format the SD card in the RORO CAMAPP of your phone first (Note: you need to connect the Tesla-Topfit WIFY) and then take it out from the dash cam.(Note: the APP is RORO CAM,and not the ROPRO CAM)

2. Then copy the two files in the attachment into the SD card.

(Note:You need to use a computer and a card reader)

After the file is copied to the SD card, re-insert it into the dash cam.(Note: At this point, you need to start the car while you operate)  The LED light flashes, and the dash cam will say DVR recording if it has completed upgrading.

3.  After the upgrading has been completed, its okay to re-format the SD card in the RORO CAMAPP of your phone ( Note: you need to connect the Tesla-Topfit WIFY again)

4. After the app completing upgrading, its okay to press the shortcut button to close the camera sound.

We dont know if the above description is clear, and if there are any uncertainties or the camera still makes noise after trying , be free to let us know, and then we think of other ways again. Now, trouble you to help us try according to the above steps.

Hope my reply can help you. Any other problem, be free to contact me again through this email or my Facebook( Teslafans Lee) or Whatsapp/ Skype( +86 13570835023).

Kind regards

Get black tires with Rubberspray

Black looks really good. I bought 4 cans of Rubberspray and decided to paint my tires black. Bear in mind that this does not protect the rim and it can get scratched off so be careful and do not use a high pressure washer on the tires. 20171015_144740

The application part is really easy and anyone can do it. I know nothing and managed to get a decent result.

Here are my pro tips:

REMEMBER TO WEAR A MASK

  1. Clean your tires

    20171015_144728

  2. Use the whole Can at once, do not stop spraying until the can is empty. First layer will look something like this. Just spray and keep the wheels close so you can leap to each tire.

    20171015_145153

2. Keep your cans warm and stop if there is little gas left or else you can get drops. 20171015_152132

Don’t worry about the drops, you don’t see them later.

3. Minimum 4 layers. 4-6 is recommended.

End result is cool.

Wash with care!
