Rust or Corrosion on Tesla Model X, rock impact of course!

Every single time I bring my car in for rust or corrosion damage Tesla finds a way to claim rock impact. This borders on the absurd when they claim rock impact inside the doors and underneath the frunk. Also, rust is normal and if your car works, then shut up about it:

If the car can drive. No problem. It can rust all the way!

First of, yes the car rusts. Make sure you inspect the car often to undercover rust, Tesla might also claim that even though things rust, they still function, which is absurd. 4 year old car should not rust like this.

Rust

Corrosion

Here are some corrosion images, I have forgotten to take image of the spoiler. It has been replaced 3 times. They claimed rock impact for most of these. Including underneath the frunk and inside the door.

Tesla just lies

So, how do you know Tesla plain out lies an claims rock impacts? Look at these two images of my front door. I took a picture some time before service, and during the service visit the technician touched the bubles and broke the paint surface. He pulled back and claimed rock impact! To make this even more absurd. This is INSIDE the door.

Also Tesla does NOT understand Norwegian law about reklamasjon, so if your car has driven over 100.000 take pictues, get a NAF test and be prepared to take them to forliksrådet.

My Tesla Model X service history

Service Center Count: 15+ (I have lost count)

Keep this in mind:

Tesla expect you to prove everything and will not accept your word for it. Make sure you take videos and images of your issues. On some occations even this will not be enough. Then you simply go to “Forbrukerrådet” and make a complaint. Tesla will always try to wear you out…

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Side Mirror not folding out

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the right side mirror. They did replace the mirror motor (or so they said) but the problem is still persistent. The service technician said he will try to fix it next time he comes.

The problem is tricky to prove since every other time I get into the car my right mirror does not fold out entirely, sometimes it looks folded out since I am reversing out but once I start driving I notice that the mirror is not folded out. I then have to pull over and open/close the mirrors manually since it is not possible to close the mirrors during drive.

It is really uncomfortable to not have the right mirror especially when I need to pull over as I can not see properly the cars on my right side. Se a video below the images.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Chrome details comes off

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the chrome decals on the rear trunk. This has happened twice now and the first time I had to come in to the service center, this time they are sending a mobile technician to my house. The reason this happens is because it is fastened only by a double sided adhesive tape. The tape is obviously of sub par quality.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Rear camera is broken

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the rear view camera that keeps breaking down. On a car this size it I really need it for parking. The only way to fix the camera was to reboot the car. I was hoping that this was a software issue but eventually I emailed tesla and requested a service appointment. They did replace the camera (or so they say). Works fine now.

Have you had a similar experience, let me know in the comment field below!

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Front Plastic decals not fitted

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the black plastic decals over the front left and right wheelbase. This is something I have seen on almost all other Tesla’s as well. The fitting is really poor. I have asked them twice to fix it but the for got it the first time. It is fixed now and tightly fitted.

Here you see the plastic decals not fitted

Of course I had to have the car in the service shop for 1 day. Hope it stays this way now.

What do you think, something you have seen on other Teslas? Comment below and let me know.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Screws are rusting

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the screw that holds the rear camera in place. It is full of rust. Tesla explains that the whole car is made of aluminium so it should not rust, but the screws are subject to corosion. They also claim that this is normal and not covered by warranty.

I find  that hard to believe, use proper screws. Seriously. And why is only on screw rusting? This would not happen on a BMW or am I wrong? Please comment below if you think so.

Tesla has not yet fixed this, it has been on their list to fix twice and they forget it each time. Now they promised to fix it when a service technician comes to my house.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Front window cable canal won’t clip on

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the cable canal that runs from the roof across my front windshield to the rear view mirror. The cable canal will not clip on. Looks flimsy. I had the service technician try to clip it back into place but he was unable.

Is this something you would just live with or should I complain and have it replaced? Comment below and let me know.

Howie’s Tesla Troubles – Rear Spoiler Corroding

Hi and welcome to this series where I blog one post for every issue I have had and how it was resolved

This time it is the rear spoiler. It is corroding! Tesla states that their car is made of aluminum so it does not rust. Great I though, but guess what. Aluminum corrodes for some reason beyond my understanding of physics.

Anyhow, Tesla promised to fix this so I have deliver the car to the service center once again. I think this is the 6th or 7th time I am there.

Really bad… What do you think? Comment below and let me know how aluminum can corrode or if you have the same problem.
